Simplicity | London, ontario custom portrait photographer

So yesterday, I posted about the farm. Today, I’m posting about the driveway. The WHAT?  The driveway?  Yup, we’re that simple. Although, don’t kid yourself, I’m a gemini – I can throw a good curveball or two.:)  We live on a court and I’m so glad we paid for the premium. It was money well spent. No yelling, “CAR! ” every 2 minutes. We sat outside, literally on the driveway, for a few hours, with April and Nate, and did – absolutetly nothing. It was great. This is what long weekends are for.

Nate and I coloured on the driveway, when he wasn’t hunting down rocks, sitting on April, kicking the ball, getting in and out of his own car, dragging along his hockey stick or laying in the grass. Clearly, you can see how we have no need for toys. It makes me wonder what the (beep) I’m gonna do when the weather gets so dang cold, and keeps us quarantined inside for the winter season. Nate is a go – go- go type of guy, so sitting around and watching tv, or being kept to one room, just isn’t this thing. But I’m sure I’ll figure something out, when the time comes.

Here are some shots from that beautiful, calm and quiet evening. I’m over the moon with excitement, that I have now captured another all time personal fav image of my little guy, being his cute little self. Can you tell which one it is?:)Stay tuned for the beautiful mess that is, Nate eating his first cream cone. Happy Labour Day weekend.

Boyish Things | Toronto, ontario portrait photographer

The Great Adventures of Mr. Nate. I should start a journal, titled such. This labour day weekend, hubby and I stayed close to home and opted out of going to the cottage. I know, I know – gasp! You all know how much I adore my cottage and how I wish I could spend more time there, but the truth is, we barely spend any time at home, together. So here we are. At home. Loving every minute of it. Tonight, we spent 2 hours just sitting on the driveway, watching Nate run around and collect rocks and play with April. Of course, I had my camera, but those images will follow in another post. This post will feature, Nate and our visit to the O’Shea Farm of this afternoon.

So we head over to the O’Shea Farm here, close to London and Nate has his choice of animals, children’s rides, slides, a sandbox, swings, baby rabbits, trucks and what does he go for? ROCKS!. Of course, don’t you know my son? Good thing children under the age of 2 are free.:)He did eventually muster up enough intrigue to explore some of the baby animals and enjoy a good ride on the John Deer, not to mention slide down that great big tube, but in the end, he just wanted his rocks. He’s such a ham, he cracks me up. Rocks and trucks. In the words of Chandler Bing – ” Could he BE anymore of a boy?”

Heading over there today, with the below seasonal weather and the crisp breeze, made me giddy for Fall. I love the Fall. Once I am over the summer, I get excited for the coming months. Then before you know it, it’s Christmas, then spring, then summer again!  Here’s to the 2010 Fall season !

Enjoy some images of my little man.

Burberry & butterflies | Toronto child portrait photographer

Here we have another session that required bribery. This time, in the form of gum. Mom and the fam showed up to the shoot, with a gorgeous Burberry dress for big Sis and I just about melted. That famous tartan pattern was created back in the 1920s – and is still worn, to this day, by gorgeous women all over the world – including Little Miss M!.

Strawberries here, butterflies there & gum everywhere. Bribes thrown out left, right and center. I always say, “Don’t worry. It’s supposed to go like this.” Kids are kids, and this is a game to them. Regardless of what we all say – kids are the boss – when it comes to a photography session.:)

Everyone, say hello to M. She loves strawberries, dancing and shopping. This little one came prepared, and I mean prepared. I’m talking, Burberry, lipstick, perfume – you name it, she had it. She sure knows how to rock a shoot. And in her back pocket? Her bear, Excel gum and a ton of smiles.

Bear is torn and tattered, just as he should be. Worn with love and soft from many cuddles. I love when little kids have a sentimental attachment to a very special toy or blanket. It’s so honest and real and there’s nothing in this world getting in between them and their lovey.

I’ve had this retro pram for a couple months now and have to say, Little Sis fit in it quite nicely. She’s such a cutie.

Have I mentioned before how much I enjoy girlie sessions, despite the tomboy in me?:)

Here is your sneak peak N & P – Thanks again for trusting me to capture your gorgeous girls, just as they are !

Enjoy~

Treasured | London, Ontario custom portrait photographer

My little man loves to collect things. Wood chips, sand, rocks, blocks, crackers, grass, balls, you name it, he will find it and gather it.

It’s funny, because, I am the mom at the park who’s chasing her son around and around as he collects this and that. He has no long term interest in the slide or the swing, he’s more into looking around for what he can crowd together with pride and joy. Nate just wants to run. Run to the empty field, the cement parking lot and the hill. He’s such a free bird.

I thought, since he’s in this phase now of amassing things alike, to get together some of his favorite things and put them in vintage jars while spreading them around him. I had a vision of him sitting in front of these jars of treasures with him sheepishly looking at me and grinning… but I think as we all know, kids are so unpredictable and I was hoping he would do it on his own, but the shot never did come through, and that is A-OK. Everyone knows that my style of photography is unforced – so I let Nate be Nate. I ended up getting some precious shots of Nate’s personality at this very moment – which is what I was hoping for. Because, they change so fast – come next week, he may be doing something completely different, and I never want to forget how adorable it was to watch him round up all the little things that make him so happy. All of which, I never had to pay for. His dad likes that, very much.:)( crackers and balls excluded ) Speaking of crackers, if Nate has anymore Goldfish or organic Duckies, he may just turn into one. Honestly.

Here are some of my favorite shots from that afternoon in the backyard with my little man and his most treasured valuables. Nate is rich with simplicity, and I hope his appreciation for very little, stays with him, a very long time.

And on a side note, Nate is growing into quite the little man. Smiling all the time, laughing out loud, and running about the house. As of this week, I now can add ‘ feeding himself with a spoon’ to that list. It’s so bittersweet because you want your children to grow up and become independent ( lord knows, my mother taught me that well – I don’t want to still have to feed Nate when he’s 16 )  but then you realize, there’s one less thing they completely depend on you for. Ouch. So soon?! Really? He wants no part of my helping hand when it comes to shoveling food in his mouth. And I’m ok with that, now.. I have come to realize, that with this one less thing that he will expect of me, it will create another need. Maybe something more along the lines of an athletic responsibility, like relying on me to take him to soccer or hockey. Come to think of it, I can live with the switch of responsibilities…xo.  So in true fashion of blogging everything Nate does for the first time, here is a snap shot of him eating, like the big, little man he now is.
